This rubric is intended for a 1:1 performance assessment. It was designed by special education teachers working with students at multiple ability levels. The design is to give an “end of year complexity” passage to the students at the beginning of the year and then work through 10 different questions targeting specific skill types from vocabulary to inferencing. The assessment then would be repeated at multiple points to gather growth data with the reading passages remaining at the end of year complexity. The reliability of the assessment lies in the consistency in which prompts and assistance is given to the student as well as the way the points are awarded.
